Go Dog Go!

Life With Miles the Puggle

Maybe They are Really Dogs

Happy New Year!  It is 10:30  in the morning and B, me and Hallie just woke up.  We were all snuggled in bed sleeping like, some would say babies, but I, of course would say, like dogs.  Lil Joe and My G are still asleep.  Could it be that the family is really a family of dogs and not really a family of humans?  Nah! They would be really ugly dogs if they were dogs.

Anyway, I’m wishing everyone evrywhere a year filled with peace, happiness, food and walks.  Can you believe that in only 20 more days, there can very well be a new dog in the White House.  Go Obama – the girls and dogs everywhere  are counting on you.

Christmas Break

Even though I am a Jewish dog, I know that Lil Joe and My G just started their winter vacation from school.  This break always occurs right around Christmas, so I think that we should call it what it is – a Christmas vacation. I guess I am a little old fashioned.  I’m excited to have this break because I know that the family will be around a lot!  My G will stay up late into the night and sleep half the day away.  Lil Joe will hang out and watch TV and read and hang out with his friends.  Hallie and B will go to work, but they will have lots of days off and no meetings at night.  This will all just make my life – happy, happy, happy!

It is definitely going to be a white Christmas.  It snowed twice this past week.  Snow is all over the place which means that my walks are a little bit shorter.  I actually don’t mind because it is a little “nippy” out there, especially for my paws.

Do people say I hope that we will have a white Hanukkah?  I doubt it.  But for those folks who do wish for snow on this minor Jewish holiday, they will definitely get their wish.  Personally, I hope that I get some new yummy chew toys as well as a new loofa dog.  Ever since Hallie got me that latex loofa (which is impossible to destroy), I just don’t get that toy as much as I use to.

I hope everyone enjoys their Christmas vacation.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.  I’m an incredibly lucky dog as you know and I am thankful for all of the wonderful humans in my life – Hallie, B, My G, Lil Joe and all of their extended family and friends.  They have all added so much to my life.  I can only hope that a certain president-elect will go for a mixed breed rescue dog.

One More Bark Obama Entry

So by now we all know about presdent-elect Bark Obama’s promise to get his girls a dog after the election.  Despite a ridiculous amount of pressure from the American Kennel Club to get a purebred dog, Bark has not succumbed as of yet.  Instead he has shared with the world that we will have to wait until the Spring for the Obamas to actually get their dog.  They figure if they are going to get a puppy, it will be easier to train the dog during warmer weather.  This makes sense to me, though I’m not exactly sure where these girls will walk that dog.  It’s not like Sasha and Malia can just go gallavanting up and down  Pennsylvania Avenue with their dog.  I also think that the Obamas will have to deal with so much change in their lives – new house, new school, new friends, new government, etc. that they may as well wait until they are more settled in their new digs.  I am content to sit and wait for them to make their best decision.  This is one cool family and they are very practical.  I know they will go the rescue route!

I’ve Died and Gone to Heaven

woof

Yippee, yahoo and woop-dee-doo, we have a new president and it is Bark Obama!  As many of my fans know, I have been eagerly awaiting the results of this election.  It was last January that I first wrote about the Obamas promise to their little girls that at the end of the campaign, regardless of who won, they would get a dog.  So, on Tuesday evening, I more than rejoiced at the news that Barack Obama was overwhelmingly elected as our 44th president of the United States and in his acceptance speech, he specifically reminded his girls and the world of his promise to get them  dog.

And oh how the pundits have picked up on this newsworthy story.  NPR, the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun Times, the LA Times, etc.  have all run stories about Bark’s promise and queried what kind of dog the Obamas will get.  Bark’s little daughter has allergies, so they will probably go with a dog with hair as oppose to fur.  But will they go the rescue route or go for a purebreed?  For most past presidents the golden retriever has been a popular choice.

I want to remind Bark of the importance of getting a rescue dog.  These are the dogs that are left by their owners to fend for themselves in the world.  If they are lucky they manage to survive at a no-kill shelter and I shutter to think what happens if they don’t end up in one of these shelters.  The cute puppies are the first ones to be adopted.  It’s the black and brown dogs with questionable backgrounds that are the last to be adopted.  That was me – a brown and black dog with a very questionable background.

I’ve heard Hallie tell the story many times that when the family came to the shelter they wanted a particular dog, a poodle mix, who didn’t shed and had lived in a home for several years.  They met that dog and he ignored the whole family.  When I came in the room, I slowly went up to every family member, looked them in the eye in my cutest way, and we all fell in love together.  I know that the family changed my life for the better and I like to think that I have done the same for them.

I know that whichever kind of dog the Obamas get, it will be a lucky dog because they will be part of a loving family and live in a house with 132 rooms!  But they should pick a rescue dog and give some hope to dogs everywhere.

VP Candidates and their Pets

The family and I just watched the debate between the vice presidential candidates, Sarah Palin and Joe Biden.  Sure they both spoke quite a bit and it was interesting.  I waited with baited breath to hear whether or not either of these candidates would mention anything about pets, dogs, cats, fish, moose, etc.  Unfortunately 90 minutes went by and not one mention of anything of interest to dogs everywhere.

So I just checked the internet to find out the pet situation for these candidates.  The news is not good.  Joe Biden does not have any pets.  He seems like such a nice guy. I am sure an animal from a shelter would really add more joy to his life.  What better time for Biden to adopt a dog than October is Adopt a Shelter Dog month.   On the other hand, Sarah Palin has a retriever named Bill (such an ordinary name for the mother of Track, Trig and Willow).  It’s great that she has a dog, but she is no animal lover.  I’ve seen the pictures of her with a gun and have heard the stories about her hunting moose.  Moose today can be dogs tomorrow.  Hopefully Bill will be safe.

Therefore, I am still rooting for my candidate, Bark Obama.  Maybe he and Joe Biden can get a two for one deal from the animal shelter when Bark adopts a dog for his girls on November 5, 2008.  A dog can dream.

Happy New Year

It’s that time again…Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.  It’s next week and B, the rabbi, has been very busy on his computer getting ready for the holiday.  He’s an interesting guy.  He works on Hallie’s laptop to be near the family because that computer is in the kitchen.  He loves to watch movie previews and show Lil Joe and My G stuff on You Tube.  He brought home his laptop from work — not sure what he does on that one – probably top secret rabbi stuff.  Then he writes on his blog in the office.  He is one busy computer guy.

So, as I was saying, Rosh Hashanah is next week and I just know there will be some good food around this place.  Twice this past week people have dropped off these little loaves of cake so that the family will have a sweet year.  There was a banana cake and a honey cake.  I say “was” because those puppies are long gone.  They didn’t last too long around here.  Although My G has the most amazing sweet tooth I have ever seen, he didn’t even get a chance to see those cakes.  Hallie left them on the table and “chip-chock” before she knew it, I gobbled them up.  She left the banana cake on the table, kind of close to the edge, on Sunday.  It was an easy grab.  I took the cake into the TV room and it was delicious.  Yesterday, she left the honey cake on the same table.  I actually saw her stop and push it away from the edge.  But it was still an easy grab and I ate that cake too.  I ate that cake in Hallie and B’s closet.  Hallie was impressed that I did not leave one crumb on the floor.

So now everyone keeps teasing me because i ate those cakes.  They ask about my outside business and say that I have love handles – whatever that means.  I was just doing what dog gots to do.  There’s a lesson in this post for the family — don’t leave food on the table, especially little cakes.

In closing, I want to wish everyone who reads this blog a happy, healthy new year.  May there be peace in this world.  May everyone be caring to the earth and treat each other with respect and dignity.  And may there be a new president in the White House (one who gets his daughters a dog from an animal shelter).  L’shanah tovah!

Go Bark Go!

A hearty shout out to Bark Obama who accepted the Democratic nomination for President of the United States but moments ago.  Does he realize that in just 67 days he will have to buy (hopefully adopt) a dog for his girls just like he promised those many months ago?  He may be hoping for something else in 67 days, but I’m not.  Go Bark!  Dogs and humans everyhere are counting on you.

What The Hey?

I mentioned in my last post that My G was at camp. Well, earlier this week there was a lot of commotion, duffel bags were out and before I knew it B and Lil Joe were no longer here. I have learned from B’s blog that they are in Rwanda and then they are going to Uganda. So it’s only me and Hallie. If you are a regular reader of my blog, then you know that this is great, because I love being with Hallie and I don’t usually like to share her with the rest of the gang. I must admit, it is a little lonely during the day because Hallie goes to work every day. I’m not sure what she does, but if she would leave the computer on during the day, I’m sure I could figure out what she does. Hallie always leaves NPR on for me during the day. Once again, I have learned a lot about John McCain and Barack Obama. It seems that any little thing that happens with those two guys, the reporters at NPR have something to say. Hallie is actually the best dog walker in the family. She takes me for long walks and she lets me smell every little thing, which I just love to do. This morning, she was cleaning the deck and she let me roam around the back yard by my lonesome. Of course, when I jumped over the wall to visit our neighbors, she also jumped over the wall. Who would have guessed that Hallie could jump over a wall? Go know. She is one amazing woman!

A Reminder to Bark Obama

I hope that Bark Obama remembers that he promised his girls a dog when he gets elected President. His little girl’s dreams of a cute, adorable dog from a shelter are just 6 months away (not to mention the end of this long national nightmare). Not to put to much pressure on the guy – a dog can dream…
